    In today’s world, power saving is very important and difficult. Though there are many power generation methods, it has become very difficult due to insufficient resources. So, saving of power is the need for our society. This paper discusses about how power can be saved in street lights. The main objective is to control the street lights (dim during dawn and dusk time as well as bright during night time) using Dual Tone Multi Frequency (DTMF). The engineer at Electricity Board (EB) can control the street lights of various areas. If any over load occurs, the connection will be disconnected and the information is transferred through Global System for Mobile communication (GSM) to EB. In case of any detachment of jumper (EB line) then also the information is sent. Also, if there is any complaint by the consumers, they can send the information to EB through Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Reader, which will be fixed in one of the street light posts and the tag is given to all consumers. The message will be sent to EB server through GSM.

    Wastage of electricity is one of the main problems which we are facing now a days. In our home, school, colleges or industry we see that fan / lights are kept on even if there are nobody in the room or area / passage. This happens due to negligence or because we forgot to turn lights off or when we are in hurry. To avoid all such situations we have designed this project called “Automatic room light controller with visitor counter”. This project has two modules, first one is known as “Digital Visitor counter” and second module is known as “Automatic room light controller”. Main concept behind this project is known as “Visitor counter” which measures  the number of persons entering in any room like seminar hall, conference room, classroom. This function is implemented using a pair of Infrared sensors. LCD display placed outside the room displays this value of person count. This person count will be incremented if somebody enters inside the room and at that time lights are turned on. And in reverse way, person count will be decremented if somebody leaves the room. When number of persons inside the room is zero, lights inside the room are turned off using a relay interface. In this way Relay does the operation of “Automatic room light controller”. Since this project uses 2 infrared sensors, it can be used as Bidirectional person counter as well.

    This project has 3 basic modules. First module of this project detects if person is entering in room. LCD display placed outside the room displays this status. And if person has entered then buzzer is turned on. Second part of project serves the functionality of a door-latch opening using a password entered through keypad. As well as sending this data to a computer through serial port. This module also turns on buzzer if 3 wrong passwords are entered consequently. User can change this password anytime he/she wish using a keypad. Third module uses LPG gas sensor to detect the gas leakage. If there is leakage then buzzer is turned on. GSM modem is used to send the SMS whenever there are changes in any of the three modules.
